Our School

Students have been attending Sir Richard McBride Elementary in the Kensington-Cedar Cottage neighbourhood of Vancouver for over a century. In the 2019/2020 school year, we were home to around 350 students in 16 classes (divisions).

Our outbuilding is home to four primary classes, creating an intimate environment for our youngest students. Kindergarten students also enjoy their own playground for recess and lunch. The main building accommodates the rest of our classes, including all intermediate classes. There is regular interaction between the two parts of the school through the “Big Buddy” program.

McBride prides itself on its music education program, offered to all students from kindergarten to Grade 7. The PAC helps support this program. Our school concerts are a key part of McBride culture. We have an honour band for older students, and McBride has participated in the VSB choral festival most years. McBride students also have the opportunity to participate in sports like basketball and cross-country.

McBride was seismically upgraded in the 1990s (the outbuilding was done more recently) and interior renovations were recently completed to make the school more wheelchair accessible. Improvements to our playground are anticipated in the summer of 2020.
